This past Friday, as we are nearing the end of the year, we decided to take the junior high students on a picnic at the end of the road. We started at the school and hiked down to the end of the road near the rock quarry (about 3 or 4 km). Took us a little over an hour to walk. It was one of the most beautiful days we've had this spring and we had a great day outside!
I walked there with a group of grade 6 girls:

The students had a nice time relaxin/roasting hotdogs and marshmellows and having juice and hot chocolate:

A couple people from Pang set up their tents at the end of the road so that they can go down as often as they like to enjoy bbq's and bonfires/hanging out with family and camping over night. Here are the 3 tents that are there right now:

Aside from that we went on a great hike Friday night and had a rather eventful weekend that we'll post about later.
We can't believe how quickly this year has gone by and are looking forward to being in the "south" two weeks tomorrow!!

The other night Marcus and I decided that it would be a good idea to go for a walk around midnight. As you will see we where treated to quite the show.

Again it has been a while since Nic and I have had a chance to update the blog.

I have had another first while living in the north, I have finally tracked and found Arctic Hare. After many miles on the Snowmobile and again many miles on foot i came across this guy.

The story sadly isn't all that interesting so i will spare you the details, and just show you the shots.

Another spring camp session has come to an end and another successful one to report. As per usual spring camp went on for 3 weeks. The highschool students went out the first week, the grade 9's and 6's along with day trips from the elementary school the second week and the grade 7's and 8's with day trips from the elementary school the last week.

Myself along with my grade nine's headed out for two nights and three days. We didn't have the most beautiful days but they weren't overly cold either. The trips were mostly to the fishing lake as gas was in short supply during our time there. This year was my first year staying in a cabin and it was FABULOUS! I stayed with two of my students, an elder (Mary, the lady that made Mike's kammiks (seal skin boots)) and Malaiya (one of the hired cooks). The first day we opted to stay at camp after we got everything and everyone settled in so we did some braiding with the girls that were at camp, in our cabin.

During the evenings there isn't always a whole lot going on. My students filled most of their time with exploring and playing cards:

As many of you already know... i have been known to tinker. I got thinking about my memories while snowmobiling here, and how i wanted to make sure that those memories remained clear. So i made a rig for our video camera that would allow me to tape my entire ride. To my surprise, it work perfectly, unfortunately i haven't had a chance to process the tape yet so you will have to wait. Anyways here's a look at the rig

Can you believe it.... two posts in one day?!?!?!?!!?

Our friends Marcus and Delia had Marcus' parents visiting from Finland for the past 2 1/2 weeks and during that time there were many opportunities for fishing. This is a post about one of those days. This was on the weekend, last weekend, when I was off work so the 6 of us had a chance to all go together.

A post for our faithful readers that haven't given up on us. We have been fairly busy these past couple of weeks with different visitors and events taking place. As the saying goes "a picture says a thousand words" so I won't be saying much but just letting you enjoy the scenes we've been enjoying lately.

These are pictures from last weekend. As the weather and conditions were pretty much perfect we decided to take advantage of the situation and head up to the weather station and the top of Duval. My (Nicole's) first time ever up to either of those places!!

At Long Last two shots of our bear...

There's not much to tell... this bear was locally hunted (not by me), Nic mentioned to me that she really wanted a skin, i have to admit that I thought it was a really neat idea so....

All we have to do is wait as we have already sent it down south thanks to Nics Mom to have it tanned and mounted. I really wanted to have him fully mounted with arms outstretched and standing on his hind legs, but later i found out that I really wanted a rug...

As you can see this was a huge bear (male). I sure wouldn't want to meet this guy at the foot of a tent.

The skin still needed a little bit of drying...and neither nic or I felt like scrubbing bear grease of the carpet, hence the blue tarp. Even Siku thought it made a pretty comfy place to rest.
